Day 12 of the
National Blog Post Month challenge where I’m writing a blog post every day
along the theme of 30 Steps to Happiness and Contentment.
How many times have you driven to work/school/the shops and not noticed the world around you? Have you taken time recently to notice the leaves on the trees changing colour or the birds gathering to fly off for the winter? Have you seen your first Robin this year, or watched how the rain splashes off the leaves on the trees?
Too often we are so blinkered that we don't take time to notice the beauty of the natural world around us. I'm fortunate to live in a beautiful part of France where the majesty of the mountains is thrust upon me every day, but you don't have to live anywhere special, just make a conscious effort to look at the trees, take a walk in the park or tend to your garden or houseplants.
The food we eat dictates how healthy we are - fill yourself with fast and over processed foods and it will take it's toll on your health. Well, what we take in through our eyes affects our mood, our inner being, our soul. If all we see is high rise blocks, buildings and offices (man made structures), we are denying our soul the opporutnity of healthy growth.
Think about the last time you took a walk in the countryside or a trip to the coast or anywhere you were surrounded by nature - how did it make you feel? Didn't you feel calmer, more relaxed, more at peace and more able to think clearly? I believe it's not only the fact that you are perhaps away from the pressures, but it's also because you are providing your soul with beautiful natural sights. It's calming to the soul. Just as it's better for your to eat more natural food, it's beter to see more natural sights - to be more aware of and at peace with nature.
So take time today and every day to really look at and internatlise what's going on in the natural world. Nature is happening all around us, and it's good for us to stop and take
time to appreciate the beauty of the world - it's food for
the soul!

Good advice. I myself sometimes stop to admire the cakes and pastries in the bakery. As I'm not buying it is a sort of feeding my soul. Seriously tough, the trees do it for me every time.
ReplyDeleteSo true Nikki - When I'm feeling stressed I like to just take off to the beach or the hills and just be.
ReplyDeleteIf that's not possible a walk in the park or just sitting in the garden really does restore my soul. :)
Music and the countryside ('specially the beach) are my main soul foods......... we all need to stop hurrying around for at least some of the time!
ReplyDeleteA nice reminder to stop and smell the roses.
ReplyDeleteHa ha Midlife Singlemum - that's more like torchering yourself ;) Trees are amazing aren't they!
ReplyDeleteYes Sarah it does really help relieve stress and doesn't have to take up much of your time either.
I agree music is another good soul food and something we can really loose ourselves in.
That's a good way of putting it shambolicliving :)
Indeed!

I just found you through NaBloPoMo and I am really enjoying this series :)
ReplyDeleteMy post today was on a similar note, though about noticing people around you and making a difference. I guess it's my way of feeding my soul.
